UMBELINO Awarded Gold Seal by APICER

Umbelino Monteiro, a leading ceramic tile production company in Portugal, was awarded the label "Ceramics - Portugal Does It Better", in the "Gold" category, to recognize its excellence in the sector in international markets. The award was promoted by the Portuguese Association of Ceramic Industry (APICER) and supported by COMPETE - Operational Programme for Competitiveness Factors.
The distinction was awarded to Teresa Miller, administrator of Umbelino Monteiro, by Franquelim Alves, Secretary of State for Entrepreneurship, in a public ceremony held at the Museum of Ceramics in Caldas da Rainha.
Umbelino Monteiro develops an innovation strategy that aims to position the ceramic tile as a material that responds to the challenges of sustainable and bioclimatic architecture. The continued investment in research and development enables the company based in Pombal to develop building systems and products that make buildings sustainable at a thermic level, in power consumption, in indoor air quality and durability of the roof.
The label "Ceramics - Portugal Does it better" means to be a "higher qualification to be awarded to companies that meet a set of objective requirements, which gives an image of sustainability, organization and competence", and a way to promote the merits and transmit an image of credibility in foreign markets.
The evaluation committee was chaired by APICER and formed by the University of Aveiro, the Leiria Polytechnic Institute and the Technology Center of Ceramics and Glass and Training Centre of Caldas da Rainha. The classification assigned two levels: a "Gold" stamp for companies with a rating between 76 and 100% and a "Silver" for the 50 - 75% tier.
