Caves Ferreira's New Look

Although its story goes back for more than 250 years, and the wines of one of the most emblematic wine cellars in Portugal date back since 1815, Caves Ferreira just retooled a series of spaces, that make the whole Port wine experience even more special.
The Dona Antónia Hall, the Vintage Hall and the Tile Room are some of its most privileged and unique areas, as they invite moments of pleasure and discovery of Port Wine in a modern, comfortable and sophisticated environment.
The Dona Antónia Hall received an upgraded environment and now gives visitors special tastings, accompanied by cheeses and chocolates, but also of the famous wines of the Douro House Ferreirinha or an assortment of creative cocktails based on Ferreira Port wine.
The Tile Room, an old reference of these cellars, was also restored and now takes place as its highlight, an intimate space with a privileged view of the interior of the aging cellars.
As for the Vintage Room, it is, as its name indicates, an area where visitors can find detailed information on the history of Ferreira Vintage Wines, from 1815 to 2011 (the latest vintage released by Ferreira), namely major national and international historical events that marked the year declared, as well as details on the climatic conditions that influenced these historical vintages .
In a granite building built in the 18th century, visitors are welcomed in the spacious "Hall of the Cross", an ancient and impressive storage space decorated with old machinery related to the production of Port wine and surrounded by huge storage tanks. It was precisely here that the wines left to the pier on the Douro River, where they were shipped towards the export markets.
It should be noted, finally, that Ferreira, now owned by SOGRAPE Wines, is the only major port wine house that remained faithfully in Portuguese hands ever since its founding. Today Ferreira takes the historical legacy enriched by several generations of the founding family - the Ferreiras from Régua - with a particular emphasis on the period that comprises Dona Antonia Adelaide Ferreira's leadership, popularized affectionately by her countrymen as the "Ferreirinha" of the Douro. Beyond Ferreira, SOGRAPE Wines also includes in its portfolio the Offley and Sandeman Port brands, whose cellars also lie at the waterfront of Vila Nova de Gaia.
