Alstom presents new technology

Alstom presents new technology Alstom presented the project at the Port SIEF, the result of a program of research and development that leads 3 years ago in partnership with the Institute of Welding and Quality (ISQ), with the company and Computerized Maintenance Industrial Technology (MIIT), and counted with the collaboration of the Universities of Coimbra and Oporto and EMEF (Maintenance Company of Railway Equipment).
This R & D project which aims to increase the reliability of rail equipment and reduce maintenance costs, representing a total investment of 1.3 million euros, and was supported by the Portuguese Government and institutions at the European level (NSRF - System Incentives for Research and Technological Development). The first prototype was installed in a composition (UTE 2240), Alstom manufactured and property of the operator CP-Train Portugal.
The SIEF project (Integrated Reliability of Railway Equipment) aims to develop a system that allows teams to maintain a higher availability of fleet and prolong the life of the rolling stock. The technology consists of a SIEF Modular Monitoring online with sensors located on the motor bogie of the train, which will transmit data in real time to a central control computer. These data are then processed and analysed by an intelligent system, which allows to extract relevant information to support decision makers fleet of trains, allowing a more economical and effective maintenance of railway equipment.
Angelo Ramalho, President of Alstom Portugal said: The SIEF is an unprecedented project completely designed and developed in Portugal with the support of our partners, with the support of the Portuguese government and institutions at the European level. The technology can be applied not only in the rail transportation industry anywhere in the world, but also can be extended to manufacturing in general. This innovation project has enormous potential as a factor of competitiveness and development of domestic industry.
